How the System Failed My Family — and Thousands of Texans Just Like Us

By Freddie America

My story isn’t special.

My pain isn’t unique.

And that’s exactly why I’m fighting.

Everything my family went through — being ignored, dismissed, overtaxed, silenced, and pushed aside — is happening to thousands of Texans every single day.

I am not the first Texan this system has failed.

But I’m fighting to make sure I’m the last.

1. It Started With an Over-Appraisal — A 375% Increase Overnight

Like so many families in Texas, my home was appraised far above reality — even though I lived in a flood zone.

The appraisal district didn’t care.

The Appraisal Review Board didn’t care.

They blindly defended their numbers and ignored the truth.

They told me:

  •        Flood zones don’t matter

  •        Comparable homes don’t matter

  •        The Constitution doesn’t matter

  •        “This is just the way it is”

They slammed the door on me without hearing a word.

That moment changed me.

2. They Did the Same Thing to My Stepmother — A Widow

My stepmother was hit with double taxation — illegal, unconstitutional, and immoral.

They split the property value.

They reassessed it wrong.

They inflated the price.

They charged taxes on money she didn’t have and value that didn’t exist.

A widow.

A woman who gave her life to her family.

A woman who survived everything life threw at her.

A woman whose husband served this country.

And her “reward” was an attack from the very government that swore to protect her.

That wasn’t an accident.

That was the system.

3. The Courtroom Wasn’t Better — It Was Worse

When I filed my lawsuit, I walked into that courtroom believing in justice.

I believed:

  •        My voice would be heard

  •        Evidence would matter

  •        The law would matter

Instead, I was dismissed in minutes.

The ARB lawyers laughed at me.

They told me I had no case.

The judge refused to hear my side.

I was treated like a problem — not a person.

It felt like the verdict was written before I walked in.

It wasn’t justice.

It wasn’t fairness.

It wasn’t Texas.

4. Even the ARB Lawyers Looked Shocked When I Lost

I will never forget that moment.

I looked over at the lawyers representing the appraisal board — the people who were SUPPOSEDLY fighting against me — and even THEY looked stunned the judge ruled so fast and so harsh.

Their faces said it:

“That wasn’t right.”

The system wasn’t just biased —

it was coordinated.

That’s when I realized:

**The fight wasn’t in the courtroom.

The fight was in Austin.**

5. Then Came the Line That Changed Everything

One of the lawyers told me:

“If you want to change this, go to Austin — not here.”

He meant it as an insult.

He meant it as a joke.

He meant it to shut me up.

But to me, it was a challenge.

It was the spark that lit the fire.

6. The Same Story Is Happening Everywhere in Texas

Everywhere I go, I hear the same stories:

  •        Seniors losing homes

  •        Veterans crushed under taxes

  •        Widows being ignored

  •        Working families drowning

  •        Parents choosing between taxes and groceries

  •        Schools blamed for problems politicians created

  •        Appraisal boards inflating numbers to meet quotas

  •        People being denied due process

  •        Courtrooms rubber-stamping injustice

This isn’t “isolated.”

This isn’t “rare.”

This isn’t “normal.”

This is a statewide crisis.

7. That’s Why I’m Running — To Protect the People the System Forgot

I’m not running for fame.

I’m not running for attention.

I’m not running for politics.

I’m running because Texas families are suffering and no one is fighting for them.

I’m running because I know what it feels like to be silenced.

I’m running because I know what it feels like to be dismissed.

I’m running because I know what it feels like when the government forgets you exist.

I’m running because I refuse to let one more Texan lose their home without a fight.

FINAL WORD

My family’s story is one of thousands — and that is why this movement is bigger than me.

This is about:

  •        Justice

  •        Dignity

  •        Truth

  •        Accountability

  •        Constitutional rights

  •        Texas families

The system failed us.

But we will fix it.

Together.
