Protect Homes. Protect Teachers. Fix Property Taxes.

For years Texans have been caught in the middle of a broken system.
Homeowners face rising property taxes that grow year after year, sometimes faster than their incomes. At the same time, teachers and school districts are forced to depend on those same property taxes for funding. This has created a false choice that Texans should never have to face: protecting our homes or supporting our teachers.
The truth is that we can do both.
The current system ties teacher funding to the rising value of our homes. When property values increase, tax bills increase. When homeowners struggle, schools worry about funding. This model creates unnecessary conflict between neighbors who all want the same thing: strong schools and stable communities.
Teachers deserve stable salaries and reliable funding that do not depend on the rising tax burden placed on homeowners. Our educators shape the future of Texas. Their financial security should not fluctuate based on property appraisals or housing market spikes.
At the same time, Texans should never fear losing their homes simply because they cannot keep up with property taxes.
That is why I support the idea of a Texas Home Protection Amendment.
This proposed constitutional amendment would ensure that a person’s primary residence cannot be taken away solely because they cannot afford rising property taxes. Homeownership should represent stability, security, and the reward of a lifetime of work. No Texan should live in fear of losing their home over taxes.
Protecting homeowners does not mean harming teachers or schools. Instead, it means building a smarter funding structure that protects both.
Texas has many resources available to support education, including economic growth, energy revenue, and statewide funding mechanisms that can provide stability for our schools. Teachers should be funded through dependable systems that do not rely entirely on property taxes tied to local housing values.
This approach creates three simple goals for Texas:
• Protect homeownership
• Provide stable funding for teachers
• Reform the property tax system so it works for everyone
When we stop treating homeowners and teachers as opposing sides, we can finally focus on real solutions.
Strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand. When families feel secure in their homes and teachers feel secure in their careers, Texas grows stronger.
It is time for a system that protects both the people who teach our children and the families who build our communities.
Protect homes. Protect teachers. Fix property taxes.
