Why I'm Running

By Freddie America

I’m running for Texas House District 89 because the system failed my family — and if it failed us, it is failing thousands of Texans who don’t have the strength, the resources, or the support to fight back.

This is personal to me.

I was raised by a father who served this country with honor. And I was raised by two mothers — my mom and my stepmother — both strong women who taught me about dignity, sacrifice, and standing up for what is right.

But today, those same women are being squeezed by the very government that is supposed to protect them.

My stepmother was hit with double property taxes because of unconstitutional appraisal practices. They split the property value, reassessed it, and overnight — 375% increase. That’s not fair taxation. That’s predatory government behavior.

I faced the exact same thing in 2020.

I lived in a flood zone, and my home was over-appraised. When I went to the Appraisal Review Board, they didn’t listen. They didn’t look at the evidence. They had a big black book that they clung to as if it were gospel — a book that approved everything they did, even when it violated the Constitution. I remember sitting there feeling like my rights didn’t matter.

I felt small.

I felt unheard.

I felt like the Constitution I believed in wasn’t being honored.

In 2023, I filed my lawsuit.

I walked into that courtroom believing the Constitution would protect me.

Instead, the ARB lawyers laughed.

The judge dismissed my case with prejudice without hearing my side.

I stood there, a Texan, a homeowner, a father — and I felt like justice had been replaced by politics.

One of the lawyers told me:

“If you want to change the law, go to Austin. Not here.”

He meant it as an insult.

But I heard it as a calling.

Even the other lawyers — including the ones representing the ARB — looked shocked when the judge ruled so quickly against me. Their faces told the story: this wasn’t justice.

So I appealed.

And I won the right to appeal.

Because I showed judicial bias, and because I refused to quit.

That appeal changed me.

I realized something important:

They’re not going to fix anything for us.

We have to fix it ourselves.

I read the Texas Constitution — front to back.

I studied Article 8.

I studied the laws on taxation.

And I realized:

Everyone telling us “that’s just the way it is” — is lying.

So I decided to step forward.

Not because it’s easy.

Not because it’s comfortable.

But because no Texan should ever lose their home because of unconstitutional taxation.

Our current representative isn’t fighting for us.

Austin isn’t fighting for us.

So I will.

I am running for Texas House District 89 because:

  •        Seniors are losing their homes

  •        Veterans are being pushed out

  •        Widows are being crushed

  •        Working families are being ignored

  •        And the government has forgotten who it works for

I didn’t choose this fight.

This fight chose me.

And I’m taking it all the way to Austin.

This is our state.

Our Constitution.

Our homes.

Our future.

And I will stand for every Texan who feels like no one is listening.

I’m running because it’s time to put the power back in the hands of the people — where it belongs.
