“WHY I STAND”

By Freddie America

There comes a moment in every person’s life when silence becomes too heavy to carry.

A moment when you realize the world will not correct itself unless someone decides to rise —

not because they are strong,

not because they are fearless,

but because the truth inside them refuses to stay quiet any longer.

For me, that moment came when I watched fairness erode right in front of my eyes —

not in a courtroom,

not in a debate,

but in the quiet place where the soul recognizes injustice

before the mind has the words for it.

I did not stand because it was convenient.

I stood because it was necessary.

I stood because small businesses like mine —

built on sweat, sacrifice, and faith —

cannot compete against giants when the law tilts the field against us.

I stood because the Constitution is not a document of suggestion; it is a promise.

A promise that power must stay in its lane,

and every Texan — regardless of race, wealth, or background —

deserves the chance to compete on equal footing.

I stood because I was taught that a man’s worth is measured

not by what he endures quietly,

but by what he confronts openly.

I stood because there are moments when your voice is the only weapon you have,

and even that is enough

when the truth is on your side.

I stood because I refuse to disappear.

I stood because if we do not defend fairness,

we lose more than a program or a law —

we lose the soul of what it means to be American.

I stand today not as a symbol,

not as a politician,

but as a reminder:

One voice can challenge a system.

One step can begin a journey.

One stand can inspire another.

And together, that is how change begins.

This is why I stand.
